Taylor Swift’s new song has split opinion: some fans already adore the Right Said Fred sampling “Look What You Made Me Do,” others detest it.

Whether you’re for or against Swift’s ‘edgy’ new direction, chances are you’ve listened to the record on either YouTube or Spotify, helping the singer achieve a new record.

The Associated Press reports that, on release day alone, “Look What You Made Me Do” was streamed more than 8 million times, nabbing an extra 19 million views on YouTube, both records for the respected services.

Billboard also reports that the single may sell over 500,000 digital copies during its first week of release, marking the biggest sales week for a single since Adele’s 2015 hit “Hello”.

Not everything has been plain sailing for Swift; fans have accused the singer of releasing the upcoming album Reputation on 10 November — the ten year anniversary of Donna West’s death, Kanye’s mum — something the label has been forced to deny.

The video for “Look What You Made Me Do” touches down tonight, during the MTV Video Music Awards, and has already been accused of plagiarising Beyoncé after Swift put a clip online.

The director of the video, Joseph Khan, has responded to accusations, saying: “I’ve worked with Beyoncé a few times. She’s an amazing person. The #LWYMMDvideo is not in her art space. Love and respect to Bey.”
